Der Balkon series, 2023
The works of this series are made using the cyanotype technique and are complemented by a contrasting freehand watercolor line. The cyanotype technique was not chosen by chance - historically it was used to copy architectural drawings. Therefore, its return to the field of architecture, according to the author, is logical.
In her works, Alexandra often turns to the theme of architecture, and the Der Balkon series is no exception. It reflected the author’s first impressions after moving to Munich. Balconies here play a special role in the lives of city residents and are often the most favorite part of the apartment. It is a place where people relax, eat, read and party. And since this part of the apartment is the most public, it can tell a lot about its owners.
The balconies of Brutalist buildings are particularly impressive: they are typically very spacious, with massive structural supports and often integrated concrete containers for growing plants. This allows you to set up entire gardens on such balconies. In addition, balconies in such buildings often completely determines the architecture of the facade, becoming its key element. Most of the works in the Der Balkon series are dedicated specifically to the balconies of Brutalist buildings.
In her works, Alexandra explores the balcony both from the point of view of architectural typology and from the point of view of its social role.
The Der Balkon series was originally about the balconies of Munich. It was then expanded to include the balconies of Berlin's historic Hansaviertel district and the balcony of the famous Hotelturm in Augsburg.
Das Wasser series, 2024
The works of this series devoted to the idea of mixing two chaos: the first, created by nature, and the second, created by man.
Transmission Tower series, 2023
Alexandra has an engineering and physics background. That is why she likes such engineering structures as electrical transmission lines so much. Not noted in any architectural publication, they nevertheless sometimes compete with buildings in their expressiveness, graphics and functionality. Why blue? Maybe because in Alexandra’s motherland they were painted mostly in blue. Works in this series are made with the usage of cyanotype technic.
